The MRT Yellow Line opened in mid-2023. It is a 30 km monorail running mostly along Lat Phrao Road, connecting north-eastern Bangkok to the rest of the metro network. For people staying in Lat Phrao it is the most useful piece of infrastructure to learn — once you understand it, the rest of Bangkok becomes 30 minutes away.
What is the MRT Yellow Line?
It is a fully elevated monorail with 23 stations between Lat Phrao in the north and Samrong in the south. Trains run every 5–7 minutes from 06:00 to midnight. It is operated by the same company as the Pink Line and the older MRT Blue Line, so a single trip ticket works across the network with the standard transfer rules.

- MRT Plus stored-value card (rechargeable): the equivalent of an Oyster card or Octopus. Worth it if you take 4 + rides.
Hold the token over the reader at the gate, keep it during the ride, drop it into the slot at exit. Stored-value cards stay with you.
Connecting to MRT Blue, BTS Sukhumvit and Airport Rail Link
The Yellow Line crosses three other major lines:
- Lat Phrao → MRT Blue Line (north-bound to Mo Chit, south-bound to Sukhumvit, Silom, Hua Lamphong).
- Hua Mak → Airport Rail Link (direct to Suvarnabhumi).
- Samrong → BTS Sukhumvit (south end of the Yellow Line).
The trip from Mahat Thai to Suvarnabhumi via Hua Mak takes around 50 minutes plus walking time. Compared to a taxi, it is more predictable in cost (฿70–฿90) and immune to traffic.
Tips for first-timers
- Avoid 07:30–09:00 and 17:30–19:00 — packed and standing-only.
- Sit on the south-facing side leaving Mahat Thai — you get the best skyline view.
- Bring water or buy at the station — drinks are not allowed once you tap in.
